Contrary to popular belief, a razor blade is not rapidly dulled by shaving. However, the micro-thin edge of the blade does quickly become bent and distorted. This distortion causes cuts, razor burns, skin rashes, and generally poor shaves. A razor blade can be bent back to its original form using magnetic energy. Yes, you heard me right. By placing a razor's edge in Razor Mate's specially positioned force field, the claim is that the edge is straightened with magnetic pressure after each shave. The blade is also magnetically shielded from rust and pitting between shaves.
I have spoken several times with Razor Mate's inventor, John Hastie, a former aerospace engineer and teacher of math, physics, and electronics at DeVry Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. He's for real and so is his product. I purchased a Razor Mate in 1997 for $19.95 plus $3.95 shipping and handling (a total of $23.90), and it still sells for that. Imagine! I shave my legs and under my arms once weekly and have always preferred a blade (usually Gillette, although any good blade will do). Like most of you, I have complained about the short lifespan of razor blades and the cost involved in using them. Since I switched to Razor Mate, miracles happened. I now use 2 blades per year. That's it! Hastie claims that even if you put an old blade on the magnetic "cradle," you will still notice an improvement the next day. I haven't tested that claim, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. Razor Mate's are that good (the product holding a razor is illustrated to the left).
You may or may not receive the same fine service from your Razor Mate that I have. But you should notice improvement and that's saying something considering the price of today's razors. I offer personal testimony about this product not only because it works for me (above and beyond advertising claims), but mainly because of the magnetics. By the way, you want to keep your razor positioned on the Razor Mate at all times - except when you use it. After each use, dry your razor as best you can and put it back. And do keep the Razor Mate out where it can be exposed to the airflow of a typical room. I discovered that shutting it off, like stuffing it into a drawer or a closed cabinet, tends to weaken the magnetic field around the product. For better service, expose it to air.
