Darlene Jaman and the story of her near-death experience is part of my research. I met her after my book “Coming Back to Life” was first published. She survived a freak scuba diving accident off the coast of California in 1984, in which she had a deep and profound near-death experience that totally changed her life. In what could have been a watery grave, she was enveloped by a White Light and an imbuing Love that lifted her to new heights of creative sight: a spiritual awakening. Darlene was always an artist, trained in many schools and by master artists. She later became active in the fashion industry, a career that took her to Paris, Rome, London, Madrid, and finally to Mexico where she married and raised two sons. What she found in Mexico - the color, music, and design – inspired and reinvigorated her. But it was that scuba diving accident that turned everything around. She spent quite a bit of time in Scotland afterward, at the Findhorn Spiritual Community. When she returned to the United States, she dedicated herself to teaching patients how to face the fear of their own death and see beyond any finality. Darlene facilitated and counseled the West Los Angeles Friends of IANDS Support Group for over a decade. During this time, and especially now, her creative sight has opened even further, revealing a transcendental gateway to another universe, far beyond the physical limitations of the canvas. Painting in free form consciousness streams, she has joined in the very depths of creativity itself. Her words: “For me, painting is a process of total surrender to a power greater than myself. It’s letting go of all preconceived ideas. When it works, the space between me and the canvas become one with the Divine – I disappear. I emerge from the darkness with my memories of Heaven’s Open Heart fresh in my mind, only to find my fingers working in color, with passion and in bliss. When the mood changes, color deepens or lightens to break through. I am awed and humbled by the mystery of it all. Honored with the gift of light from my Near-Death Experience, my goal as an artist is to give my paintings that power to call the spirit back.” Should you be interested in any of her work, or in purchasing one of her paintings, access her website and follow instructions. Feel free to contact her via e-mail or to commission a special piece.
